Water only when the top few centimetres of soil are dry by placing the pot in a saucer of water for about half an hour.
Let the plant soak up the water, allowing any excess water to drain away. . This prevents the crown from becoming soggy and rotting
Use a liquid fertiliser once a month in spring, summer and autumn
Water very sparingly in winter
Prune any straggly ends to keep it looking neat and only re-pot every few years
