The pitcher is actually a leaf mutation that has evolved to attract and trap insects. They fall into a soup at the base of each pitcher and the nutrients are digested and absorbed into the plant
Grow in bright, indirect light in a warm and humid environment. Bathrooms, conservatories or greenhouses are ideal
They are also ideally suited to growing in a hanging basket where the pitchers can trail below
Regular watering is required to keep the compost moist at all times
No fertiliser is required
